The weather is changing! Now it is actually possible to sit outside in the morning and the evening. The weather dropped to 35 degrees.
I was very happy to see the cat breathing. First I thought it might be dead..
It is getting colder
Taswir
For everybody in Berlin:
November 4th the exhibition Taswir will start in Martin Gropius Bau. As fas as I heard it will be worth it to go. Artworks by artists such as Etel Adnan, Taysir Batniji, Mona Hatoum, Marwan, Rebecca Horn and many more will be exhibited.
Since everybody is asking:
No, I do not wear a hijab. The law is not forcing me to do it and it is not expected of foreigners to wear a hijab and abaya – But I am not wearing a mini skirt or shorts and t-shirt either. Long sleeves and long trousers are OK to wear. If I am invited to a conservative family I should wear a long skirt. This does need mean a skirt that ends at the knees, it means a skirt that ends at the ankles (or the ground).
And the other question that everybody asks. Yes I am lonely! But I don’t mind it so much since I got used to it in Oslo. In addition, I compensate with shopping, chocolate and yoga. As well I am not completely alone, I know some people like the guy from the internet cafe whom I visit every now and then. On Sunday we will install ubuntu at his laptop and then we see if the whole internet cafe should get ubuntu because of all the viruses with windows. I am not really connect to the other foreigners since it is difficult for me to listen to bible school and other Christian rants. So don’t worry- I still feel well.
new things every day
Two new experiences today. First I found another form of Lebanese and German friendship: The za’atar prezel
It is the size and shape of a Bavarian prezel but instead of salt it is decorated with za’atar. Very tasty!
The second thing was that I could take a taxi and the driver new where I live. I did not need to explain the short cut to my house. It is nice to know that the city is so small that people know me after almost two month but it felt a bit strange too.
HAPPY CAPS LOCK DAY
TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY. WE SHOULD ALL CELEBRATE!!!1!!!
Visa
There is not so much going on at the moment I am finishing a essay and that keeps me entertained.
I really feel like going out dancing at the weekend but because I don’t know anybody here I guess I will do something else. Have to do a visa trip anyway. Instead of giving visas for a long period of time authorities here think it is easier if you just enter and leave the country once a month. As long as I am in Buraimi I can live on an UAE visa but I can’t enter al Ain with a Omani Visa. Another strange thing is that you can’t get the Omani visa at the border in Buraimi. I have to drive for something like an hour until I get to the Omani border and get my passport stamped (even if I am already in Oman). Maybe it is beach time at the weekend and I will relax.
Digimodernism
have you heard about Digimodernism? It is the successor of Postmodernism. http://www.alanfkirby.com/digimodernism.html
Easy solutions
You might have asked your self about the term post-post-modernism (?)
I found a very easy answer at .urbandictionary.com
The school of thought beyond that of post-modernism. Followed by post-post-post-modernism, which can either repeat back to modernism in a more “on-purpose”ful manner, or just make absolutely no sense at all. Ever.
Modernism: Writing something clever and witty on a billboard.
Post-Modernism: Writing the words “something clever and witty” on a billboard.
Post-Post-Modernism: Writing a billboard on some words.
Post-Post-Post-Modernism: Nailing a herring to a wall and punching it with a racquetball from 4-5 feet away while reciting Dostoyevsky quotes.
New Years
It seems like more and more people are thinking about coming to visit me for new years eve. I am very happy about that!
