When people greet you with awe and respect a little surprised when they see you and saying “oh my God” with a tone in their voice as if they actually just saw the holy spirit then you must have quite a reputation. I did not know he was that important when I saw him earlier in the first exhibtion room of the institute. I just noticed him because he invaded my private sphere standing too close behind me talking with a swiss-german accent on the phone. I thought to my self who needs to discuss important things on the phone in an exhibtion and felt disturbed when I turned around I saw it was him. I remember seeing him the first time in person three years ago, I think it was at Abu Dhabi Art on a panel. And since then once or twice a year in different places. I never talked to him.
Later we set quitely as the only two people in a video room and I wanted to ask him about his passion for his job because it shows when he talks and I admire that. I always wish that more people have such a passion for what they are doing. But then I did not know how to start and thought that it is clear that he always wanted to do what he does and that everybody knows the story about him hosting his first exhibtion in his kitchen when he was 23. While I was still thinking how to start the moment passed and it was too late. Maybe next time … tomorrow I will go see what is on at Serpentine Gallery.

Now that I have submitted I am finally able to start with code year. Code year allows you to learn Java Script within a year through sending you home work every week. As I am five weeks late there is a lot to do. The first class reminds me very much of what my younger brother did when he was seven. We learn how to make quizzes with guessing names and numbers. I remember this was one of the first things he showed me. Now I have a lot of catching up to do and it is so much fun to finally deal with something new.

Gun running and meat eating

When I tell people that I plan to work as a gun runner or any other job in the industry of getting people killed they react the exact same way as when I am wearing my “Meat is Murder” T-shirt. First they are confused for about one second and then they laugh. I am not sure what this is supposed to tell me but soon I will try to wear the T-shirt and announce my future career plans at the same time and see what happens.

I think i will finish my thesis tomorrow

Why I think that academic publications should be distributed online for free

I know this is discussed since a while on many platforms but especially now, as I am in need of distributions that I can’t get in the library here, I feel the need to emphasises the importance of free access to academic works. Research is already paid for by research centres and universities. There is no need to earn money with research publications as the research was most often funded by tax money in the first place. So I think that as everybody already paid for it, it should be made available for free. Often academic publishers take money for distributing an academic monograph and take money from customers who want to access this cultural good. This is very beneficial for the publisher but it is not for reader or writer. I strongly believe that if somebody wants to learn something it is beneficial for society if access is provided. And yes! I make use of google books but it is not as convenient as downloading a PDF of the article/ book in need.
I say free access to knowledge to ALL the people!

My phone got stolen again and until I get my new SIM card you need to contact me online. And yes, I did not lose my phone but somebody took it out of my bag while I was in the bus. And yes, I know I should be more careful but I really did use a bag with a sipper. And also I want to say that the only place where people steal things from me in the bus is in Oslo. And yes, this is also a reason why Oslo sucks but not the most important one. And no, I am not really upset because it is just a phone but it would have been nice to keep the contact dates. And also, the phone was a present. And yes, this is also my alarm clock, calender and mp3 player.
